Bonanza: The Legend of Hop Sing is a sweeping historical drama and Western developed by writer and producer Richard Ticho and Resilient Features.

Developed over more than 15 years, the project is intended as a definitive prequel that reimagines Hop Sing not as a comical servant relegated to the background of a television Western, but as a brave, resourceful, and historically significant Chinese American leader.

With his family's future threatened by the wealth being drawn from America's Gold Mountain, Hop Sing, the eldest son of an aging father, crosses the ocean to establish his family's place in a rapidly changing world.

His journey takes him from China to San Francisco and Virginia City, where Chinese immigrants and Chinese Americans help construct railroads, establish businesses, build communities, and create the economic foundations of the American West.

They provide labor, ingenuity, and sacrifice to a nation that depends upon their contributions while frequently denying their dignity, rights, and place in its history.

Hop Sing emerges as a strategist, entrepreneur, builder, community leader, and survivor. He works to forge a new destiny for his family while helping create a path for the millions of Chinese Americans who will follow.
